Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions and request non-repeat medication is by filling out a Repeat prescription request form online. Navigate to the bottom of this form for non-repeat medication.

Also by:

  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
  • using the GP online system: SystmOnline

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • drop your repeat slip off at the surgery having carefully ticked the items required
  • post your request to the surgery (send it to us with a stamped addressed envelope if you want us to post it back to you)

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone.

Information:

Please see request and collection times for dispensing patients in the table below.

Collecting your prescription

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

Parish Fields Practice dispensary

We have a dispensary at Parish Fields Practice and are able to dispense medications for any eligible patients.

Patients are usually eligible if they live more than one mile in a straight line from a pharmacy or dispensing chemist. Once registered as a dispensing patient, your medication will always be ready to collect from our dispensary. You will not need to collect your prescription from us first.

Dispensary opening hours:

The onsite dispensary is open, Monday to Friday, 8:45am to 12:30pm and 2pm to 6:30pm. The dispensary is closed between 12:30pm and 2pm.

Information:

For dispensing patients, please see request and collection times below:

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

Go to Medicines A to Z (nhs.uk)

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:

Medication reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Prescription charges

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff.

Pharmacy 2 You, Med Express, UK Meds, Pharmacy Express and Pharmacy Direct

The above companies are not connected to us or our doctors in any way. They are simply private companies providing a prescription delivery service.

You may have received a letter containing our name or an NHS logo delivered to your address offering you free medication delivery, again they are not connected to us and you do not have to use them.

We will continue to provide you with the prescription service as we always have and very much appreciate your loyalty.
